SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The storm that hit northwest Ohio on July 10 brought a lot of damage to Sandusky County – about $1 million worth of it.

"The first thing we say was a giant tree down in our parking lot that was laying over five vehicles. Three of those vehicles were crushed, the other two sustained some pretty significant damage," said Christie Weininger, executive director of the Hayes Presidential Center.

Hayes Presidential Center's Director of Development Kathy Boukissen says she had never experience a storm like that before.

"You'd have to experience just trying to drive around to get to people because it was so, so hard," she said. "Every place that I could drive was touched by the storm."

The City of Fremont alone filed for nearly half a million dollars in disaster relief funds. The damage estimates could change as crews continue to clean up, but Boukissen says she's not shocked to hear how high the estimates already are.

"If you even looked at the courthouse, there was one corner that just basically was rolled up on the main courthouse, and it was amazing to just witness that," she said.
