Development on the rise in downtown Toledo

Downtown Toledo is for sale and investors are buying.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Downtown Toledo is for sale and investors are buying.

The Willis Day building has been sold, as well as the Easy Street Café, just across the street. The former café will be turned into townhomes. These are just a couple of the buildings in the Warehouse District set to be revitalized.

"Anything that sells and has a new investment is good for downtown Toledo," said Kathy Steingraber, a developer. "It shows that there's a lot of encouragement, there's a lot of potential for re-development, there are people willing to invest their own dollars. It's a very good sign."

The buildings have sold very recently, but Steingraber says development takes time.

"We had confidence, and the Warehouse District Association and myself stayed very focused amidst a lot of criticism," she said. "We had a dream and we were going to work on it and we did make it work."

There are still building left sitting empty, but Steingraber believes the recent purchases could spur even further development.

"We're moving ahead. Every day something new is happening," she said. "It should build the confidence of everyone, particularly those who have already invested lots and lots of time and money."
