Deputies chase motorcycle rider through creek, into farm field

MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

A man on a motorcycle led Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies on a wild chase Thursday night, reaching speeds of more than 90 miles per hour and swimming through a creek before getting the cuff slapped on him.

The sheriff's office says a deputy was patrolling southbound on Telegraph Road south of Otter Creek in LaSalle Township around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when the rider blew by him in the opposite direction at 94 mph. The deputy immediately turned around and attempted to stop the motorcycle. The rider then led deputies on a chase east on South Otter Creek Road and then north on South Dixie Highway. Deputies say the bike narrowly avoided an accident, slipping between two cars at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and South Otter Creek Road.

After turning north on South Dixie Highway, deputies say the rider pulled into a restaurant parking lot and fled on foot. The suspect then ran through a creek, under South Dixie Highway and into a field, where he was arrested.

The rider, a 39-year-old man from Monroe, was arrested and charged with fleeing & eluding, resisting and obstructing, driving with a suspended license, and having an improper registration.

The man's 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle was impounded. Police have not released his name.
