Help those in need this Christmas in July

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Cherry Street Mission Ministries will be celebrating Christmas in July as a reminder to the community that the poor and homeless exist all year long, not just around the holidays and winter months. The mission is asking for everyone to consider how to help those in need this month.

On Wednesday night, the mission held a traditional Christmas Eve service at the Pinewood Tabernacle in Toledo. Guests, staff and volunteers of Cherry Street join in a candlelight service to honor the birth of Jesus Christ. Guests were able to share their stories of life transformation and receive recognition for the forward movement made in their lives.

On Thursday afternoon, guests of the Cherry Street Mission Ministries listened to Christmas carols, while enjoying a Christmas dinner - complete with turkey and all the fixings - at the Madison Food Services facility. Each guest received gifts containing personal hygiene items and other necessities. The Christmas celebration concluded with a "snowball fight" to help cool off those who endure the warm months of summer under the hot sun.

You can help this Christmas by texting the word "CARE" to 20222 to make a $10 donation.

You can also donate items on the Cherry Street Mission's Christmas list:

-Bottled water

-Ice

-Laundry detergent

-Bath towels and washcloths

-Deodorant

-Shampoo

Founded in 1947, Cherry Street Mission Ministries provides food, clothing, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing, and the transforming message of Jesus Christ to the poor and homeless in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Today, through its Biblically-based "Ready For Life" program, case management, and a variety of other services, Cherry Street also empowers those who seek its help to break the bonds of homelessness and poverty.
