Passenger traffic on the rise at Toledo Express Airport

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

For a fourth straight month, Toledo Express Airport is checking in with higher passenger traffic volumes, and that's giving the head of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority reason to believe that trend may continue.

Passenger traffic in June was up by more than 17 percent compared to June of 2012 - that represents nearly 15,000 passengers using the airport last month. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up by 3.5 percent compared to last year.

Also, Allegiant is fueling that surge, with business up by 81 percent in June.

"There's 2,000 people a day each way, [that] buy tickets in Toledo and drive to other airports, so we obviously have the market here to be able to handle more passengers out at the airport," says Port Authority President Paul Toth.

Toth says competitive pricing and a focus on customer service should help boost business, both short-term and long-term, at the airport.
