OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Oregon police are looking for whoever stole more than three dozen propane tanks from two stores over a four-day period.

On Monday, police were notified by two businesses about similar crimes: the propane cages outside their stores had been broken into by someone.

There were 29 propane tanks stolen from the Sunoco on Woodville Road and nine stolen from the Rite Aid on Navarre Avenue. The thieves cut the pad lock to steal the tanks.

The retail price for each tank is only about $20 each.

"Usually when someone steals it, it's for some other type of crime, like processing drugs, not so much reselling them for recycling purposes," explained Det. Janet Zale with the Oregon Police Department.

Zale says they want to get these tanks off the street as soon as possible.

"If they're using them to make drugs, it's a very dangerous type of drug to be manufacturing in your home because of the serious chemicals that are used in that drug," said Zale.

Store owners told police they believe the crimes happened between July 17 and July 20. Police say these thefts could be related.

Oregon police currently do not have any leads in this case. They are asking the public to contact them at 419-698-7062 or on their Facebook page with any information.
