School board decides against new levy on November ballot

DELTA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Schoolboard members at Pike-Delta-York have decided not to ask voters to approve anew levy this fall.

Itwas an idea that had been discussed as the board worked to balance the schoolbudget, but their finances are in better shape than expected. Savings were madein 2013, thanks to teacher concessions, increased funding from the state, and acut in energy and supply costs.

Nowthe district won't ask voters to approve a new levy in November, but they arelooking at a renewal of a current levy, with a possible increase. They areaiming to have this on the May ballot.

SuperintendentJay Lefevre says the goal now is to educate the public and get them up to speedon the district's finances.

"We'regone from this scary, kind of desperate situation to a place where we do have abalance," Lefevre said. "It doesn't mean that all our problems are solved, itmeans we have a little bit of time. This momentum is really going to carry us,I think, this confidence that we're on the right track."

Thefinancial situation is still dependant on final numbers in terms of fundingfrom the state. Those are expected by the fall.
