Marathon Classic announcer makes it look easy

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

If you came out to the Highland Meadows golf course for the Marathon Classic, formerly the Jamie Farr Classic, you probably heard and saw Tom Tomczak.

Since the LPGA tournament debuted in 1984, Tom has been the voice of the event.

Tom introduces the golfers to the gallery.

He was recommended by tournament director Judd Silverman.

The two have known each other since Judd was a kid.

"He's a touch of class. He adds a lot of class to our event. We hope he's around for many more years," says Mr. Silverman.

Tom is used to public speaking.

He's a former Lucas County prosecutor and active in local theater.

The names are scripted for him.

"A couple of them are difficult but most of them are easy because they give you the phonetic spelling. I just have to rehearse them before they come out," said Mr. Tomczak.

Mr. Tomczak says the Korean names are easy, but the names of Thai players are the most difficult to pronounce.

"Probably the one I worked on the most was Pomanog. I don't remember her first name because that was easy," he said.

Tom Tomczak will continue his announcing tradition next year.

Extra rehearsal will be needed though if it's a Thai player.
