SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

You may not know who Lydia Ko is just yet, but there's a good chance you will very soon.

"It's been pretty surprising," said the 16-year-old rising LPGA star. "I think this is only the start."

And what a start for the reigning US Amateur Champ. Last year, as a 15-year-old, Ko won the Canadian Women's Open, becoming the youngest LPGA winner in history.

"Yeah, it's been good, especially as an amateur at this stage," she said.

With success has come more opportunity, and now as a sponsor invitee, this South Korean-born New Zealander will play at Highland Meadows for the first time.

"It's quite traditional," she said as she gazed out onto the fairway. "I think it can play tough."

Then again, so can she. Ko already has three victories worldwide in pro events. Maybe even more impressive: in 14 pro events, she hasn't missed a single cut.

"She's got a great head on her shoulders. Fundamentally sound," said Marathon Classic Tournament Director Judd Silverman. "That's a nice combination of the physical and mental side."

"The LPGA tour is a tour I want to play on," said Ko. "There are a lot of girls who have done way more, better and bigger things than me. So I guess it's a learning process."

A process yes, but she's well ahead of the curve.
