Hot, humid conditions await golf fans at Highland Meadows

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's been a hot week for those working to prepare Highland Meadows Golf Club for the best female golfers in the world. As the pro-am tees off Wednesday, the mercury continues to rise.

Tournament director Judd Silverman recommended anyone coming to the course bring sunscreen and plenty of water. Bottled water and Gatorade will also be available to buy at the event.

It's the start of a new era for the tournament that bore actor Jamie Farr's name for nearly 30 years. This year, the LPGA event in Toledo will be known as the Marathon Classic. Paula Creamer, who won the tournament in 2008, says the course still has the same friendly feel.

"The fans, for sure. Everybody that comes out and supports us; the sponsors have been around for so long. Can't take away what Judd has done here. He's an amazing tournament director and he knows what to do. I mean, all the volunteers, everybody," said Creamer.

The Pro-Am portion of the tournament teed off at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. The first round of competition is set to begin Thursday.
