Fremont remains without power after storm

FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sections of Fremont remained in the dark on Saturday.

Folks in some parts of town are being told by AEP the juice won't be restored until Sunday night.

AEP crews are working around the clock replacing poles and wires knocked down by Wednesday's powerful storm.

Cecelia Quigley was planning on another hot night in her house until the power came back on early Saturday afternoon.

"I had to throw all the food out of the fridge and the freezer. Got that taken care of this morning. So I just got back from the grocery store. Going to put some drinks in there and sit in the air conditioning and watch some TV," said Quigley.

Trees damaged at Birchard Park are being cut down and removed by a volunteer group called CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team.

Members swoop into an area to help out after disaster strikes.

"To help out other people who can't help themselves is gratifying," said volunteer Don Henry.

"It feels good. I'm retired. Gives me something to do," added Joe Church.

There's not much to do when the power goes out for people like John Gonzales.

Gonzales says that may be a good thing for those forced to rough it.

"And I've seen a lot of kids that are out being kids today. They're not in the house playing Nintendo. They're out being kids," said Gonzales.

Kids should be able to play their video games once the power comes back on Sunday night.
