This stay of unusually warm October weather has a countdown to cool. Highs will stay in the 70s and even reach to just shy of record 80s on Saturday before it all comes to a close. The end of the warmth begins late Sunday evening as showers sweep across the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This late weekend system will be just the start to a cooler pattern next week; that will bring our coolest temperatures of the season so far.

WHITEHOUSE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A family in Whitehouse has received some exciting news: 3-year-old Carly Kudzia is heading to Boston to be part of a clinical drug trial.

Carly is like any other 3-year-old. She likes to color, play kick ball, and giggle. But Carly also has Progeria syndrome, a genetic disorder that makes her age 7-10 times faster than normal.

The clinical trial in Boston doesn't mean a cure, but Carly's family says the treatment is a step in the right direction.

"It's finally our turn, and we're going," said Carly's mother Heather. "There's a lot more work to be done, but it's something…I'm excited and nervous, but excited."

Carly and her friend Zoey, who also has Progeria, are both heading to Boston for the trial. The new drugs are expected to reduce the aging process.

With more children joining the trial, the cost for it has increased to around $3 million. Heather says the community's support has been tremendous.
