Suspect eludes arrest by driving into corn field, fleeing on foot

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Findlay Police say a suspect is still on the loose after an early morning police chase that ended in the middle of a corn field Thursday.

Police say an officer attempted to stop a white 2001 Ford F350 on County Road 236 around 12:40 a.m. Thursday. Rather than pull over when the officer put his lights on, the driver sped off at 85 mile per hour, police said.

The chase continued north on County Road 236, then northeast on County Road 18, east on County Road 109, north on Township Road 243 and then east on County Road 226 towards Fostoria. Police say shortly after turning onto CR 226, the truck drove off the road into a corn field. After driving nearly the length of four football fields into the corn, the driver abandoned his car and fled on foot, police say.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Fostoria Police set up a perimeter and used a police K9 to search for the suspect, but were unable to locate him or her.

Police say the chase covered 13.5 miles in 17 minutes.
