Conant St. construction pushed back again

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It has been a painful couple of months for drivers and business owners along Conant Street, and now they're learning that the construction project's completion date has been pushed back.

The construction runs from the Anthony Wayne Trail to the Ohio Turnpike, but because of recent rain, the project is taking even longer than planned.

"There is nothing they can do about it," said driver Sue Shunk. "I mean, we've had 13-15 days of rain and Mother Nature is going to do what's she's going to do, and we just have to live with it."

The $3 million project began in March. Crews are repaving the road, and adding sidewalks and barrier islands, but the construction has affected several businesses in the area.

"We understand that the weather plays a big factor in this," said Trevor Deeter, owner of Deet's Bar-B-Que. "We're just excited for it to be over with. We feel it's going to bring a new face lift to the area."

City officials say because of the weather, crews will be working six days a week. The project is expected to be complete no later than the middle of August.
