NWS confirms three tornadoes touchdown in Ohio

ASHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday's severe weather spawned three tornadoes across the state in Ashland, Sandusky, Seneca and Huron counties. 

A storm survey conducted in Ashland County on Wednesday evening confirmed evidence of a weak EF0 tornado near Rowsburg. 

The report says that the tornado touched down near the intersection of County Roads 1302 and 251.  The damaged path ended on the north end of Rowsburg. 

The tornado appeared to have been intermittent and probably at tree top height.  A barn was toppled near the beginning of the track.  Several trees were snapped or blown over and a house in Rowsburg was heavily damaged by fallen trees.

There was also evidence of straight line winds in the area.  The barn appears to have toppled from a combination of straight line and tornadic winds. Crops were flattened in fields along the damage path and livestock animals were killed in the barn collapse with several more injured. 

The damage path from the tornado was only about 15 yards wide but damage from the straight line downburst winds was more than a quarter mile in width at times. 

The damage path was a little over a mile in length. 

A survey was also conducted in the Bailey Lakes area.  This damage was found to have been caused by straight line winds.  Damage consisted of mainly downed large limbs with a few trees also toppled.

NWS also confirmed an EF0 tornado in Bellevue in Sandusky County.

The initial touchdown occured along Flat Rock Road just north of Kilbourne Street. This tornado also appeared at tree top level because most of the damage was confined to trees and rooftops.

Evidence of strong downburst winds were observed throughout Bellevue and surrounding areas.

An EF1 tornado has been confirmed in Seneca and Huron Counties, with estimated wind speed of 90 miles per hour.
