Sandusky County working to clean up storm damage

HELENA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People in Helena and other areas of Sandusky County are still picking up after Wednesday's storms.

Trees have been uprooted and snapped in half; power lines have been knocked down; and crops have been flattened. There has also been damage to buildings in the area from wind or from trees falling. Winds were reported at more than 60 mph.

As a result, people have been left without power and are working off generators. Helena Mayor Paul Tornow says the power company could be there for three days until power is back.

Residents say they are not used to seeing storm damage at this extent.

"Been a long time, I'm gonna say it goes back maybe 15, 20 years probably before these last storms really hit here," said Tornow. "This is kind of a little bit strange, but I'm glad kinda the worst missed us."
