Anita Lopez: Mayor Bell is out of touch with Toledoans

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

On Wednesday, Democrat Anita Lopez filed her petitions for this year's Toledo mayoral election.

Lopez, currently the Lucas County Auditor, says the current mayor, Mike Bell, is out of touch with Toledoans who are struggling.

Lopez says if elected, her three main points of focus will be improving the local economy, safer neighborhoods, and having city government more in touch with the people it serves.

"We're going to be a responsive government. We're going to be in touch with the struggles of Toledoans and we're going to be responsive to that," she said. "I believe in employees answering phone calls."

While Lopez did not offer specifics about how she'll achieve those goals, she says over the next several weeks she will release details of specific proposals she'll push if elected this year.

Mayor Bell plans to file his petitions on Thursday. Friday is the filing deadline for mayoral candidates and those running in this year's at-large council race.
