Honorees announced for Findlay Race for the Cure

TOLEDO, OH (Press Release) -

Every year the Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure® in Toledo has paid special tribute to two individuals from our service area who have inspired others by exuding strength and grace during their fight with breast cancer. The addition of the Findlay Race for the Cure allows us to also select two individuals from the 12 counties surrounding Findlay to be recognized at the Inaugural Findlay Race for the Cure. This year's Inaugural Findlay Race for the Cure will be run "In Celebration" of Kara Ward and "In Memory" of Holly Correll.

Kara Ward, of Carey, is a 30-year-old dance instructor who was diagnosed with the disease in January 2013. Kara shares her passion for dance and also gives hope, education, courage and inspiration to the little girls and young women she teaches. Despite a very aggressive treatment plan, Kara has used every opportunity to teach dance routines and how she faces each challenge with strength and never gives up. On May 18, 2013, Kara took the stage at Becky's School of Dance Recital and taught people that life is for celebrating each moment and embracing the journey God has provided.

Holly Correll of Tiffin, was a woman famous for her small stature, big personality and an even bigger sense of humor. She was honest, open and able to make those around her smile effortlessly. She was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 33 and throughout her fight, has maintained strong faith in God. Holly loved her family and friends, but especially her two young children. Holly passed away Dec.18, 2012 and will always be remembered for her encouraging attitude and unwavering strength.

Holly and Kara will be recognized in a special ceremony at the beginning of the Findlay Race for the Cure.

The Inaugural Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure Findlay will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 in downtown Toledo. The 5K run/walk will kick off at 8:30 a.m., with festivities beginning at 7:30 a.m.
