Dedicated fan rides Muddy Shuttle day after day

Charlene Rehklau loves spending time with her husband of 27 years, but when it comes to baseball, she has to go it alone.

(Toledo News Now) - Charlene Rehklau loves spending time with her husband of 27 years, but when it comes to baseball, she has to go it alone.

"My husband doesn't come," Rehklau said. "He is ready to go home after the fifth inning."

That, of course, is completely unacceptable to the 74-year-old Grand Rapids resident, and that is why every summer she boards the Muddy Shuttle by herself, bound for Fifth Third Field.

"There is always somebody sitting next to me. I meet the most interesting people," she said.

For Rehklau, the real fun happens when she steps off the bus.

"It's fun. I smile every time I see this field. The players are wonderful."

She loves her team, but she doesn't take each game to heart.

"They have won 35 games, but so what? Maybe they will win tonight."

After all, in the summer there is always another bus ride and another game tomorrow.
