Lenawee County law enforcement patrolling with technology upgrade

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Lawenforcement officials in Lenawee County are spending more time on the road andless time in the office thanks to a technology upgrade.

Patrolcars are being equipped with new computers and new software. The upgrade willimprove efficiency for the department.

"There'sno reason for them to come back to the department, they can do everything onthe computer," explained Sgt. Carl Polan with the Lenawee County Sheriff'sOffice.

The$300,000 upgrade is also expected to save deputies a lot of time.

"Allour reports were handwritten," Polan said. "Once they were handwritten, theywent to a supervisor to review, then they went to the records division, andthen the records division had to re-type the handwritten reports."

Thenew software will streamline that process and allow deputies to type thereports from the beginning and send them electronically.

It'snot just the sheriff's office that's seeing the upgrade. It's a county-wideeffort. Local police departments are using the new software, as well.
