3rd juror dismissed in Moody Manor trial just before deliberation

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The jury for the Moody Manor trial left just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, and will reconvene deliberation at 8:30 Friday morning.

A third juror was dismissed just hours before deliberation began.

She was let go because she is a bridesmaid in a wedding Saturday, and deliberation may last until then.

Closing arguments for the case wrapped up Wednesday morning.

The prosecution had the jury picture the night as the events were detailed. Chief Prosecutor Jeff Lingo reminded members of surveillance video and James Moore's testimony.

"Keondra Hooks was not a [Moody] Manor Boy. She was not a crip. And, yet, she was gunned down senselessly for no reason. And, as you heard testimony, in fact, it was not even the right apartment," said Lingo.

Defense Attorney Ronnie Wingate also brought up Moore's testimony, but tried to make the point of if he can't be trusted, how can anyone believe his testimony? Wingate said Moore knows what he has to do to get want he wants: three years in prison as determined in his plea deal.

"He's like a chameleon. Whatever you want, he's going to give you. But you have to understand that you are the sole judges of fact. You determine the credibility of a witness," explained Wingate.

Keshawn Jennings' attorney said this case is circumstantial and asked jurors to decide if there was proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Antwaine Jones' attorney said the gun could not be connected to Jones, nor could DNA.

The prosecution responded to the defense with more intensity. Attorney Andy Lastra pointed at Jennings and Jones when he was referring to them. He told the jury the two men aren't stupid, but are violent and like it.

The jury is now deliberating.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...
