Stow: 12-year-old falls into gorge during police chase

A teenage boy was rescued after falling into a Stow gorge during a police chase.

Cops were called to Kent Road near Darrow Road for juveniles in the area around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, the teens fled and officers gave chase behind the CVS and ultimately behind the Tip Top restaurant.

The juveniles were seen running into the wooded area by the gorge. Officers found that one of the teens had apparently jumped over a short wall in an attempt to hide, but had fallen down a rocky cliff into the gorge and was bleeding from the head.

He was approximately 10-15 feet down the gorge and was in danger of falling further. Officers, along with the Stow Fire Department, were able to rescue him and treat him for his head wound and other injuries. He told the paramedics that he had been temporarily knocked out.

Officers could not find the second teen, and were concerned that he may have fallen into the gorge. An exhaustive two hours search was conducted in the steep, rocky terrain for the second juvenile.

Further investigation led officers to a nearby home where the second teen was found hiding. He was unaware that his friend had fallen in the gorge and was injured.

The teen who fell into the gorge is a 12-year-old from Munroe Falls. He was transported by EMS to Akron Children's Hospital. The second teen is a 15-year-old from Cuyahoga Falls. He was arrested and transported to Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.

Both boys were charged with curfew and obstructing official business and referred to juvenile court.
