PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Costco is interested in building in Perrysburg, and city leaders and local business owners are hopeful the store will bring more people to the area.

Costco representatives are currently in talks with the city about the deal. If they go through with it, the new store would be even larger than the Toledo location.

"As far as employment numbers go, and the additional businesses that may be attracted to this region because of Costco locating here – could be very significant," said Brodin Walters, planning and zoning administrator for Perrysburg.

The proposal has the store listed as a little less than 150,000 square feet, and it will have a tire center and gas station.

Area business owners are all for it.

"I believe that with Costco being open right across from the restaurant…we should get more business," said Frances Elmazi, owner of American Table, across the street from the proposed Costco site.

Elmazi also looks forward to shopping at the bulk retailer.

"I do shop at Costcos, even for home," she said. "Getting food in big bulks so that way I don't have to go shop every three or four days. It's easier, I don't have time because I work most of the time."

It's still in the early stages, but city leaders say once everything is approved, they expect things to move quickly.
