Adrian abandoned gas station to be torn down

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Adrian is trying to figure out what to doabout the cleanup of an abandoned gas station.

The gas station at North Main and Front streets is in badshape and has been for years.  There are cracked and shattered glasswindows, overgrown weeds and the soil beneath it all is contaminated.

Officials with The Michigan Department of EnvironmentalQuality say residents can expect to see crews tear the gas station down in lateAugust or early September.  It will take a few weeks because undergroundstorage tanks have to be removed and the contaminated soil has to be dugout.

Once all of that is done, the commercial property will goup for sale. Residents and business owners in the area are very excited.

"We have a beautiful downtown, so the opportunity to bringin more business is phenomenal," said David Horstman, owner of Sauce ItalianGrill and Pub.

We will continue to follow this story and theredevelopment in downtown Adrian.
