ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Adrian firefighters and paramedics say they are very excited to receive a brand new ambulance.

The new ambulance will serve as a back up to the hospital ifthe Lenawee community ambulance is already in use, or taking too long to get tothe scene.

They say this is a major upgrade from what the firedepartment had before.  They were onlyable to do basic life support services with the old ambulance.

But a new cardiac monitor and other equipment will allow paramedicsto do much more as they are on their way to the hospital.

The new ambulance cost a little over $150,000, but paramedicssay it's worth every penny.

"There are times in the community where the ambulanceservice that is currently here might not be available, or they are not comingfrom close enough to where we can provide the service ourselves or until theyshow up," said one paramedic.

Funding for the new ambulance came from the Adrian's firefighters union and the city. They are waiting on a final inspection from the state. The ambulance should be up and running by July.
