South Toledo eyed for off-leash dog park

A group called Toledo Unleashed has applied for a Special Use Permit, to convert the former South Toledo YMCA location into a 4-acre dog park.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A group called Toledo Unleashed has applied for a Special Use Permit, to convert the former South Toledo YMCA location into a 4-acre dog park.

Tina Yoppolo, president of Toledo Unleashed, says she's motivated to improve the quality of life in Toledo.

"Toledo's a wonderful place, but it's missing some amenities that other cities have," Yoppolo said. "This is going to be a wonderful place to exercise your dog, keep your dog happy and healthy, might be a wonderful place for you to meet some like-minded people."

Through a proposed lease agreement with the city, Toledo Unleashed would be responsible for all expenses to build the dog park, which Yoppolo estimates at $65,000, and for maintaining the park, which she says would be covered through membership fees.

The permit request will be reviewed by the Toledo Planning Commission on August 8.
