New businesses blooming in Wauseon

WAUSEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Severalnew businesses are popping up in one local city, and it's a trend chamber ofcommerce officials say is just beginning.

BrandiWatkins is one of at least five people in the last few months to choose Wauseonas the place for her new business.

"It'sa very welcoming community," Watkins said. "There's lots of new customers here,so I have to build up my clientele."

Watkinsis the owner of Lily's Pad, a resale shop for children's clothing and furniturethat just opened on South Fulton Street.

"Overthe last six months or so, we've seen a tremendous increase in the number ofpeople starting their business or relocating their business out here," saidNeil Toeppe, director of the Wauseon Chamber of Commerce.

Toeppesays he isn't surprise by the recent trend.

"Thereis a lot less red tape to try and get a business going," he said. "It seemsthat you get a lot more help in expediting the start of your business throughthe local municipalities."

Healso says people like the service they get with small businesses, where theybuild a relationship with the owners. And the trend is just beginning.

"Abakery is getting ready to open up," Toeppe said. "Another building across thestreet from me has just been sold. Another building two blocks down has justbeen sold."
