New businesses blooming in Wauseon

WAUSEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Several new businesses are popping up in one local city, and it's a trend chamber of commerce officials say is just beginning.

Brandi Watkins is one of at least five people in the last few months to choose Wauseon as the place for her new business.

"It's a very welcoming community," Watkins said. "There's lots of new customers here, so I have to build up my clientele."

Watkins is the owner of Lily's Pad, a resale shop for children's clothing and furniture that just opened on South Fulton Street.

"Over the last six months or so, we've seen a tremendous increase in the number of people starting their business or relocating their business out here," said Neil Toeppe, director of the Wauseon Chamber of Commerce.

Toeppe says he isn't surprise by the recent trend.

"There is a lot less red tape to try and get a business going," he said. "It seems that you get a lot more help in expediting the start of your business through the local municipalities."

He also says people like the service they get with small businesses, where they build a relationship with the owners. And the trend is just beginning.

"A bakery is getting ready to open up," Toeppe said. "Another building across the street from me has just been sold. Another building two blocks down has just been sold."
