ASHLAND, OH (WOIO) -

Three of the four adults accused of holding a disabled woman and her six-year-old daughter hostage for years in Ashland appeared in Federal Court Monday afternoon.

Officials say Jordie Callahan, Jessica Hunt and Daniel Brown threatened the mother, who has a mental disability from a brain injury, and her child with a pitbull and snake attacks and also beat them with canned food.

In October 2012, the mother stole a candy bar from a Family Dollar while shopping for the suspects. She told police the people at the house were mean and that is when an investigation was launched.

Officials say the woman and her child were removed from the house several months ago and are now recovering.

Defendant, Brown waived his detention hearing and remains in custody.

Jordie Callahan and Jessica Hunt's hearings went forward. Judge Nancy Vecchiarelli ordered them to remain locked up.
