DELTA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Fire crews say a house that caught fire because of last night's thunderstorms had to be knocked down because of extensive damage.

Officials on the scene in the 300 block of Wood Street in Delta said the fire happened when lightning struck a power line, causing it to fall onto the house and catch fire.

Firefighters battling the blaze were forced to wait for Toledo Edison to arrive to turn off the power in the home before they could go inside. By the time firefighters were able to get inside, they said it was too late.

A woman, her boyfriend, and their two children lived in the house, but were not home when the fire started. Fire crews say the house was a total loss and had to be knocked down.

Family members say right now they are just trying to move forward.

"I'm just glad that we weren't here. I'm glad that we were all out of the house and it's just stuff. So we can replace it all," said Sheila Wolpert.
