GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

On Thursday, June 20, the 19 Action Newsroom received a tip about a little boy who had setup a stand to sell cups of Kool-Aid in order to help his parents pay for his recently deceased grandmother's funeral.

Soon after we met 8-year-old Micheal Diamond of Garfield Heights.

Micheal was determined to raise money after he overheard his parents talking about how much money they needed to give his grandmother a proper burial.

On Day One at Micheal's stand, he had only raised $55, far from his goal of $5,000.

After 19 Action News broadcasted Micheal's story, many in the community took a personal interest in helping his cause.

Not only residents of the Greater Cleveland area, but people all across Ohio and around the country caught wind of what Micheal wanted to do and they responded with a huge amount of support.

Micheal's story was picked up by other news outlets and the word spread like wild fire.

One parent took his children to meet Micheal after he says they had a yard sale solely for the purpose of raising money for the family.

Several viewers made a drive to Garfield Heights just to buy their cups of Kool-Aid and some were said to have even paid $100 for a cup.

On Monday, Micheal's dad told 19 Action News that his son raised $5,547.

Almost everyone that heard of Micheal's plan said that it was refreshing to hear about a child wanting to do something so special for his grandmother.

If you didn't have the chance to grab your cup of Kool-Aid and want to help, donations can be make via PayPal at  TeresaDiamond@yahoo.com.
