Third Moody Manor shooting suspect takes plea deal

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A murder suspect in the death of 1-year-old Keondra Hooks will no longer stand trial.

Instead, James Moore has accepted a plea deal that will require him to serve as a witness in the case against the other two suspects, Antwaine Jones and Keyshawn Jennings.

The three were all originally set to stand trial for the shooting at Moody Manor Apartments last August, which left Hooks dead and her 2-year-old sister Leondra seriously injured. The two young girls were sleeping in their apartment when shots came through the house.

"This family really lost somebody, and it hurts because we don't never know what she could have been," said Bernice Neal, Keondra's aunt. "[Leondra] knows that her sister is not here...She know what she felt that night. She knows it, she has to live with that. She can't even sleep."

Jones and Jennings rejected plea deals earlier this week. Jones' father says his son is innocent, and claims they are good friends with the Hooks family. Neal, however, says that is not the case.

"No one from their family every came and said sorry," she said. "They never showed any type of compassion for our loss."

The trial for Jones and Jennings will start Monday. The judge says he is expecting the proceedings to take about two weeks. He expects to have a jury seated and hear opening statements by Tuesday.

Neal says she's anxious for the trial to begin.

"I really want to know what happened. I want to hear it from their mouth," she said. "Because it still don't make no sense to me."
