Credit cards charged many times at Kings Island

MASON, OH (FOX19) -

Dozens of guests who visited Kings Island on Father's Day are not happy to see what their credit card and bank statements look like.

A park spokesperson said on June 16th, there was an error in the park's overnight card processing, leaving many with extra charges.

"They completely drained my account," Amy Donaldson told FOX19's Brett Hoffland.

Donaldson says she often goes to Kings Island with her daughter who has a gold pass, but between admission, lunch, and some snacks, her total charges last weekend were just under $600, a whole lot more than she bargained for.

"As a single mom with three kids, I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I have no money in my account. I couldn't go to the store to be able to buy milk or toilet tissue," said Donaldson.

She says she was charged 14 times for one item, and 12 for the other. She still hasn't received a refund and is unhappy with the way Kings Island has handled the problem.

"I won't be renewing her gold pass next year. It's just not going to happen. I'm not going to spend my money there," said Donaldson.

The following is a statement provided by Kings Island:

"On Sunday, June 16th, there was an error in our nighttime batch processing which resulted in credit cards being charged multiple times for the same transaction. We were notified of the situation and immediately began working with the banks to reverse these erroneous charges. All charges have been reversed as of yesterday afternoon."

Jaime Casey did get her refund, but not before she was charged over $850 on a couple drinks, an Icee and some flip flops.

"I was just a little upset I had to pay $10 for some plastic sandals, so I was a little shocked to find out a couple days later that it cost us well over $10," said Casey.

She also had to deal with overdraft charges.

"We have no grace period on our car payment. Would our car payment not have been able to be made today, they would have repo'd our vehicle tonight,"she added.

Many park-goers have called Kings Island for answers. Casey says she's been treated with respect, but she will change a few things for future trips.

"My husband absolutely doesn't ever want to use a card there anymore," said Casey.

Kings Island is asking any guests that may have incurred overdraft fees to contact the park via phone at 513.754.5700, via email at kingsislandgr@visitkingsisland or on their Facebook or Twitter page a so they can work with you.
