Fireworks saved in Tiffin thanks to public

TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Budget cuts almost left the Tiffin community without a pool and fireworks this summer, but thanks to the generosity of the public, both are alive and well.

The public raised over $12,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks celebration. A big part of that came from the Tiffin Music and Art Festival – which raised over $4,000.

The city cut the fireworks and pool out of the budget in order to avoid deeper cuts in the police and fire department. Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz says he hopes this is the last year the show will rely on public donations.

"It was terrible it had to come down to it," he said. "We're cautiously optimistic that maybe next year we won't be in this same predicament if the economy continues to pick up steam and add jobs."

Montz also said he's very thankful to the community for pulling together and donating.

The Fourth of July festivities will be at Hedges-Boyer Park. Games will start at 5 p.m., music at 7, and fireworks at 10.
