Perrysburg Heights festival in jeopardy

A long-running festival that helps people in Perrysburg Township could be in jeopardy.

The South of the Border festival helps fund the Perrysburg Heights Community Center, but an important meeting for the festival was canceled Tuesday night.

Some people wanted the meeting, but they say that there have been some internal struggles among board members of the Perrysburg Heights Community Association, even a petition calling for changes. Now, because of those problems and financial issues, the festival could be put on hold.

Some community members still want to encourage people to be active with the association.

"We're trying to get enough people from our neighborhood to want to say, ‘Yes, I want to be a board member. Yes, I'll sit in one of the offices,'" said Leticia Costilla. "[We want to] keep the center going for our children and our children's children."

Residents say the festival plays a key role in keep the community center going.

There has been no word on when the meeting will be rescheduled.
