ODOT’s new Lucas County garage opens in Maumee

The new facility. The new facility.
LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

After nine months of construction, the new Lucas County ODOT garage is open.

The full-service maintenance facility sits on Technology Drive in Maumee, and cost $6.5 million. The former facility was on Detroit Avenue, and it took Lucas County employees 15-25 minutes to reach a highway maintained by ODOT. The new location is right next to the highway.

In the new facility, mechanics can better service the trucks and equipment, and new office space will allow employees to respond more efficiently to customer needs.

"We've been operating out of an old facility that was inadequate for many years," said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. "Now we have a modern facility that has the room that we need to do the job."

There's also a new salt storage facility that is able to hold up to 9,000 tons of salt, and a new wash bay for service vehicles.

The closest full maintenance facility is in Northwood.
