Liberty Center wants drivers to slow down

LIBERTY CENTER, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Leadersin Liberty Center are looking into the possibility of reducing the speed limitalong certain portions of State Route 109, in an effort to increase safety.

Residentsin the area say there's limited visibility at a curve in the road, and theythink drivers take the curve too fast. It's just north of the main downtownarea in Liberty Center, where the speed limit jumps from 25 to 35 miles perhour.

"We'vehad a couple of accidents there already, so we're concerned with safety," saidMayor Max Fetterman.

Soleaders are looking into the possibility of expanding the 25 mile-per-hourspeed limit, at least to the curve. Fetterman says it's especially importantnow, when more people use the road since 24 opened. That extra traffic can posea threat to residents.

"Alot of children are on their bikes or walking to the park, which is just westof the intersection," said resident Carol Carpenter.

LibertyCenter leaders say they will work with ODOT to figure out the next steps andwhat needs to happen to bring about safe change.
