ProMedica buys Sylvania shopping center

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

ProMedica now owns Starlite Plaza in Sylvania, although officials haven't said much about what the future holds for the shopping center.

Business owners at the plaza have mixed reactions to the sale. Businesses on the east side of the shopping center believe they are safe, but those on the west side are less confident.

"It's scary, very scary, not knowing if we're going to be here tomorrow or gone the next day," said Steve Eichenberg, owner of Memory Transfers.

ProMedica purchased the shopping center June 5. They say the plaza at 5700 Monroe Street is the future site of a medical facility. Jim Damschroder, owner of Buckeye Store and More, says he's confident the new owners will bring business to the area.

"It will be owned locally and they'll make it a Class-A center again," he said.

Owners on the west side of the complex say they are not happy with how ProMedica is dealing with the purchase, adding that they have yet to be talked to by the hospital. Regardless of what happens, they say their business will continue, it just may be in a different location.
