Waterville’s Red, White and Boom festival reaches goal

WATERVILLE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A community tradition will be back in Waterville for at least one more year.

The Red, White and Boom festival was brought back last year thanks to community donations. The city is seeing the same "boom" for the festival this year.

The donation goal was reached Tuesday to fund the Fourth of July show and festival.

"We're just so thrilled that the community came out, the businesses, the residents," said Debby Sniderhand, festival chairman. "Everyone has supported this cause…this has been amazing."

A total of $20,553 was raised. Of that, $15,000 will go toward the fireworks show, the rest toward the festival.

"It's awesome when ordinary citizens come together and accomplish awesome goals," said Barb Bruno, fundraising chairman.

Sniderhand also says the event wouldn't be possible without the help of the Waterville Community Church.

"The Waterville Community Church has supported Waterfille in many ways," said Mary Beth Dematteo. "For years, we were doing a fun fest, and then we were asked to accompany in the Boom fest, and we felt it's the perfect combination."

The festival will have free music and fireworks. It will be held July 4 behind Waterville Primary School.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...
