TARTA offers lunchtime ride for 25 cents in Maumee

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

For 25 cents, catching a ride from Maumee's Arrowhead Park on weekdays is now a possibility for everyone.

Local college students will be knocking on doors throughout Arrowhead Park starting Tuesday to begin spreading the word about the newest service offered by Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), known as the "Lunch Loop."

The lunchtime transportation service will take workers in the 1,100-acre park to and from area restaurants. The cost to ride is just 25 cents each way. The service will run from Tuesday, June 18, through September 20.

TARTA General Manager James K. Gee said, "this is an ideal opportunity for workers in the Park to go to lunch and back without the hassle of moving their vehicles and looking for places to park. Just call TARTA, and we'll see that a bus picks you up at work, takes you to your restaurant and then picks you up and returns you to work, when you call the second time." Gee said, "Like the old slogan goes, '… leave the driving to us.'"

Gee said Maumee's Arrowhead Park has the largest number of workers in one compact location within TARTA's eight-community service area.

The service will be available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekdays only. To arrangement a pickup and return, call TARTA at 419-243-RIDE (7433).

Tuesday, college students will be distributing small, paperboard replicas of TARTA buses containing information on the Lunch Loop service for businesses to share with their employees. The students will be wearing cards identifying them as members of the Lunch Loop team.
