SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Downtown Sylvania Association is hoping to revitalize downtown in a number of ways.

A farmer's market, called "Tuesdays in Sylvania" is one of the new events the DSA is doing. They are also looking to brighten up the downtown with a hand-painted mural on one of the city's historic buildings.

"I feel like the more people that are in downtown Sylvania, the better we're all gonna do," said Jennifer Linehan.

Linehan, 28, is the owner of Beautiful Blooms by Jen, as well as the president of the DSA. With the help of others, she's coming up with creative, innovative ideas to liven up the city's downtown area.

"To create a walk-about area is our goal, so when people come, [they] don't just go to one store, [they] wander around and see what's at the other stores," Linehan said.

With $8,000 in their account, the DSA is thinking of new ways they can use those funds to brighten up the city. Their ideas include expanding the flower pots on Main Street to other downtown blocks, and the mural.

"We have so many historic buildings," Linehan said. "So it will be so nice to kind of update one and add some color, so, we're really excited."

She says the goal is to keep businesses surviving and thriving in their city's downtown, and their work is just beginning.
