UT increases graduate tuition

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Undergraduate tuition and general fees are not going up for the upcoming year, but graduate students will be paying a little more as the University of Toledo Board of Trustees on Monday approved the president's recommended budget for fiscal year 2014.

It's a $498 million budget plan for the university's non-clinical enterprise. While undergraduate tuition and general fees are frozen, graduate tuition will increase 3.5 percent.

Also, full-time faculty members will be taking on an extra class per session, reducing the need to hire part-time instructors, and according to President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs, that should increase the quality of education.

"Putting the most experienced faculty members in the classroom improves the level of instruction," says Jacobs. "Not a graduate assistant but a full-time tenured professor in the classroom will enhance the quality of instruction, I believe."

According to the president's report, class size will be held stable, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 19.
