Crawford family celebrates positive influence of fathers

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There's one family in Toledo that takes Fathers Day seriously, real seriously.

On Sunday at Walbridge Park, the Crawford brothers held their 18th Annual Fathers Day Cookout.

"We thought the mothers were getting all the credit. Didn't want to be left out so we started this," laughed Arnold Crawford.

But there is another side to the celebration featuring delicious ribs, chicken, sausage, K'bobs and hot dogs.

"It's important because we need to be positive role models. We need to let our young people know that you can be a dad and you have time to spend with your children," said Alan Crawford.

The three Crawford brothers grilled up the spread.

Between them, they have eight children.

They've raised them well.

"You want to make sure that the kids got discipline because without it, they can be lost," said Tony Crawford.

"You need to be there because so many fathers are not there for their kids in our community," added Arnold.

Those valuable tips came from the Crawford brothers late dad A.D. and mom Barbara Griffin.

"What you have to do is teach them how to work, be honest and go to school," said Barbara.

And celebrate those values every Fathers Day with a cookout.
