Local residents frustrated with Ottawa Hills construction

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ottawa hills is seeing a big construction summer season, with a few roads closed, sending motorists to find alternate routes.

Motorists just outside Ottawa Hills are finding ways to get around the eastbound closure of Bancroft street. What this means for area resident Brittney Jackson is loading up her two boys even earlier, to get to work in time. This morning, I'm like 'come on let's go!' we're all rushing, grabbing bags, because I know that all this construction's right there. There's more traffic on the streets at that time, for me trying to get to work on time" said Jackson.

Jackson works near Reynolds and Bancroft in Toledo, which is close to Ohio Auto Sound and Security. Their second entrance has been closed since work began on Bancroft. Manager Jacob Hess says with construction there's good that comes from the bad."The road definitely needed done. It was pitted, it was, approached before that it was really nasty, and our approach was nasty, so, there putting in a new one of those too, which helps us out big time" said Hess.

Associate Engineer Eric Tittle says the 90 day project should be done by the end of August. Until then, motorists will have to deal with the eastbound lane being closed a little while longer, before construction switches lanes. "We're a couple of weeks behind schedule, so we plan on switching the traffic in about a week and a half to two weeks to going eastbound only" said Tittle.

The Talmadge road bridge closed in Ottawa Hills for a reconstruction project that will take 45 days. Brittney Jackson just wants to know how long all the area's construction will take.

"That's what I want to know. The longer you're in the car waiting, that's more gas you burn, and gas is still going up. That adds to all of that!"
