Oregon Schools to interview three for superintendent

OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Nine people applied for the job of Oregon City Schools' next superintendent. School officials have narrowed the pool down to three.

They will bring those three candidates in for interviews on June 17, and on the 25, there will be a public meet-and-greet. By June 27, they hope to have their superintendent.

District leaders want to move quickly, before other districts lock in contracts with their administrators.

The three candidates are Dr. Deb Piotrowski, the current superintendent of Xenia Community Schools, Dr. Michael Sander, current superintendent of Clinton-Massie Local Schools, and Dr. Lonny Rivera, a principal at Wayne Trail Intermediate School, in Maumee City Schools.

"They've been in team leadership roles and had success in those roles," said School Board President PJ Kapfhammer. "On paper, there's three great candidates that any district would love."

Kapfhammer says he's happy with the number of applicants and their quality, but says now it's about finding the best candidate to replace Superintendent Dr. Mike Zalar.

"All three, we'd be happy to have as the superintendent," he said. "One of them is going to prove they're our next superintendent."

The public meet-and-greet will be held June 25 at 7 p.m. with the candidates who make it past the first round of interviews. Board members will then announce their final decision at a special meeting on June 27.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...
