AG DeWine consults experts on Limberios death

Jake Limberios Jake Limberios
SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

For more than a year, the family of Jake Limberios has been fighting for a change in the ruling of Jake's cause of death.

Jake Limberios' death was originally ruled as an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound in March of 2012. His family believes someone else pulled the trigger, though, and the forensic pathologist they hired ruled there was no scientific proof he could have shot himself.

Two weeks ago, a judge removed Special Prosecutor Dean Henry from leading the investigation into the 19-year-old's death. The judge said Henry had a conflict of interest, because he also represents Sandusky County Coroner Dr. John Wukie in a civil case brought against the county by the Limberios family. Dr. Wukie is the one who made the initial ruling in Jake's cause of death.

Attorney General Mike DeWine was brought to the case, and he says his ultimate goal is to get to the bottom of what really happened.

"We're going to consult experts," DeWine said. "We're going to consult people who are experts in forensics, for example, to determine what the facts are, and we're going to follow the facts. If the facts lead us to believe there should be a grand jury panel to look at this, then that is a very distinct possibility."

DeWine said he's not even sure if the case will make it to a courtroom, but either way, he plans to get to the bottom of it.
