TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A semi truck caught fire on I-75 early Wednesday morning, causing a road closure and a big mess.

Thick smoke billowed through the sky as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Police say just before 12:30 a.m., the driver of a semi slowed down to avoid hitting a deer. The driver of another semi slammed into the rear of that vehicle, bursting into flames.

No one was injured in the accident, according to police.

I-75 Northbound near Ottawa River Road was shutdown for a mile, as crews worked to put out the flames coming from the truck and clean up debris.

Officials on scene tell WTOL 11, the road was badly damaged from fire and diesel fuel. They are working to repair the road as well before fully reopening it to traffic.

Two lanes of I-75 Northbound have been reopened from I-280 and Alexis Road. Southbound traffic is not affected.

The ODOT engineer in charge of repair operations says traffic will be restricted on I-75 until late on Friday. The contractor is preparing sections of the roadway for new layers of asphalt paving, beginning in the middle and passing lanes of northbound I-75.

Storms forecast for Wednesday evening could delay the work.
