Firefighters battle Sylvania Township fire without hydrants

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A fire destroyed a home in Sylvania Township early Sunday morning.

Fire crews responded to heavy flames inside a home on the 5800 block of Artwell Drive around 5:30 a.m.

Efforts were hindered to fight the fire due to the neighborhood being a non-hydrant area. Crews had to get water from Richfield Township and Ottawa Lake, Michigan, to fight the blaze.

Firefighters say oxygen tanks inside the home lead to several explosions. Crews only battled the fire from the outside, since no one was in danger.

The three people who live at the residence were not home at the time of the fire. Authorities say they are on vacation.

It's unknown at this time if the home is a total loss. The exact amount of damage is still being determined.

The cause of the fire in under investigation.
