Walbridge pool getting makeover, opening soon

The opening date of the Walbridge Community Pool keeps getting delayed.

With summer inching closer people are wondering when they'll be able to take a swim.

Officials say they shouldn't have to wait much longer.

"The Walbridge Community Pool should have been open two weeks ago. You can see crews are out here right now making sure you'll be able to take a dip really soon," said Walbridge Mayor Edward Kolanko.

Pool maintenance is the reason for the delay.

The concrete pool was built in 1963 and each year requires a little more elbow grease to get things up and running.

Before it can open this year crews are installing new liners to the concrete floor.

In the past, the pool had to be painted every summer.

Painting the pool costs at least four thousand dollars per year.

The new liners will increase the longevity of the pool and help keep maintenance costs low.

"We're making improvements for the community so we ask for their patience we're being patient and once everything is done they'll be very appreciative and happy about the pool," said Mayor Kolanko.

Weather permitting, the pool should be open at some point in the next two weeks.

The City of Toledo is apologizing to a man after they billed him for cutting grass on public property near his home.  Anthony Davis and his wife have lived in their home in south Toledo since 1995. The grass in the cul-de-sac outside their home is often overgrown. Davis normally does not mind cutting it himself.  "Just so that we don't look like we're living in some type of jungle or something," Davis said. However, recently the grass grew up to his knees.
