ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) -

The City Prosecutor has filed misdemeanor drug charges against Indians player Chris Perez and his wife, Melanie.

This, after marijuana was delivered to the Perez home in Rocky River on June 4. Investigators from Ohio Attorney General Office found the weed to be about 5.7 ounces or 163.9 grams.

A U.S. Postal employee at the Rocky River Post Office noticed the package smelled like marijuana and alerted Inspectors. The U.S. Postal Service placed GPS tracking devices in two packages mailed to the Perez home. The priority mail packages never left the house and were found in the basement.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says the packages of weed were accepted by Melanie and was addressed to Brody Baum. Melanie told the undercover agent Brody is the family dog and Baum is her maiden name. Melanie said she had no idea what was in the package, and she had not ordered anything for the dog.

According to police report, Perez told investigators that the weed was his and for his personal use.

Chris and Melanie Perez will be arraigned on the misdemeanor drug charge on June 19.

Indians GM Chris Antonetti released the following statement on Friday:

"Clearly, we take these matters seriously and are disappointed whenever there is any negative attention brought to the Indians organization or one of our players. We understand and respect that there is an ongoing legal process that we will allow to evolve."
