Summer feeding program kicks off for Cincinnati kids in need - Toledo News Now, News, Weather, Sports, Toledo, OH

Summer feeding program begins for Cincinnati-area children

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Approximately 750,000 Ohio children may not know where their next meal is coming from. A local organization is battling that statistic by making sure kids in the Tri-State have enough to eat this summer.

The Children's Hunger Alliance kicked off their annual Summer Feeding Program on Thursday at Burnet Woods.

The program, part of the national Summer Food Service Program, is administered through the Ohio Department of Education and helps pick up where school lunches leave off.

"We know that lots of kids get school breakfast, school lunch, but what happens when school is out?" asked Holly Molony with the Children's Hunger Alliance. "So the Summer Feeding Program provides a place for them to go get a health, nutritious meal. They also usually get some sort of physical activity there. They can play with their friends, plenty of stuff to do."
